Terms of use and some tips for submitting a photo/video:
- Hotels, restaurants and Chefs are encouraged to get creative with the videos/photos and demonstrate their own unique cooking style. It is also important that their personality shines alongside. This is what will make each and every photo/video stand out.
- The photo/video should demonstrate a hotel's, restaurant's or chef's hospitality, creativity, ideas, skills, and cooking art.
- The video/photo should be fun to watch and maybe even surprise the viewer, giving people the opportunity to learn about the hotel, restaurant and chef's work. The photo/video should ‘come from the heart' and be authentic.
- The video/photo could incorporate the heritage of the hotel's, restaurant's or chef's country of origin. We recommend explaining where the food originates from and also a short presentation about the food culture in that particular country.
- The hotel, restaurant and chef can show their team, restaurant, ingredients, techniques, and so on.
- We recommend that a video does not last more than three minutes.
- It is very important that the lighting is good enough throughout a video to ensure the plate is not in shadow at any time.
- The hotel, restaurant and chef can use any equipment, including iPhones and other smartphones. There are plenty of amazing videos filmed using iPhones on YouTube.
- If you do use an iPhone or other smartphones, we recommend using a film production application to edit the video (e.g. to cut the film and add music).
- Please only use free music or music you have the right to use. We will not be able to accept videos that violate copyright or if it's unclear whether or not they violate copyright.
- The owner or Chef is invited to show their name, restaurant name, and web address in the photo/video. This will have a greater promotional impact.
- The WGS reserves the right to embed the WGS logo or sponsor logos, as well as any other elements, therefore linking the photo/video to the WGS Best Video/Photo Contest. This will be done by the London team at no cost to the Chefs or owner.
- WGS reserves the right to accept or refuse any photo/video submitted for the contest.
- The submission fee for the WGS 2020/21 award is £44.
- All high-quality, unique hotels, restaurants and Chefs at haute cuisine level are welcome to join the challenge. Home cooks at a high level are welcome too.
- The country and/or global jury will have the final decision.
- The Chef or owner can use any language for the video.
- If required, the London team can provide subtitles for a fee.
- The Chef or owner is responsible for the content of the photo/video. The content must be in line with local and British laws (e.g. it must not violate any photo or music rights).
- The video or photo must be in line with the WGS Code of Ethics.
- All accepted videos or photos will be presented to the WGS global community and to a world-class jury appointed by the WGS.
- The jury will nominate the best videos/photos. Winners will be honoured worldwide to a gourmet audience of 50,000 gourmands and in press releases to over 1,000 food journalists.
- To be nominated, a photo/video needs to demonstrate originality, a dedication to haute cuisine, have an educational component, and most of all be fun and entertaining. Videos should be recorded and edited with the following dimensions: 1920 x 1080 or at least 1280 x 720 pixels. This is possible with most video cameras currently on the market (iPhones included).
- WGS has the right to publish and communicate the submitted photo/video on all of its channels.
- Camcorders should have a manual focus and aperture setting, as this will prevent the subject from being backlit or falling out of focus, in the event of camera shake.
- When using a smartphone, it's best to record in landscape mode. The phone camera setting must also be set to manual (there are Apps that can do this).
- We recommended using a tripod for fixed shots, or a gimbal stabiliser for shooting in motion.
- It's best to use a lavalier microphone to capture the subject's voice. This avoids the camera picking up ambient background noise.
- Creating a video from a series of photos will not give you the best result.
- A custom preview image will offer the best results when the videos are uploaded to YouTube.
- Recordings in English (with subtitles if you wish) will deliver the best results when published on social media.
